Who is eligible?

  Criteria for referral for Methadone treatment includes:     

•     Regular daily use of opioids
•     Physical dependence (signs and symptoms of withdrawal)
•     Social, financial and legal difficulties
•     Problems with health caused by drug use
•     Inability to discontinue use
•     Neglect of major responsibilities due to drug use
•     Preoccupation with drug (obtaining it, recovering from the effects)
•     Likelihood of abstinence based therapy being successful at this time is small
•     Past history of treatment failure
•     Opioid dependence for at least one year
•     Liver function and urine testing
